PERMISSIONS POST
Apr. 5th, 2024 07:42 pmCHARACTER NAME: Ciaphas Cain
CHARACTER SERIES: Warhammer 40,000
[OOC]
Backtagging: Yes.
Threadhopping: Definitely don't mind for open network posts, but for log posts I'd prefer it if you ran it by me and whoever else is in the log first.
Fourthwalling: No thank you.
Offensive subjects (elaborate): No specific subjects come to mind.
[IC]
Hugging this character: Yes.
Kissing this character: Yes.
Flirting with this character: Absolutely! He's at least a little likely to flirt back, but there's only room for one lethally dangerous blonde in his life, romance-wise.
Fighting with this character: Go ahead!
Injuring this character (include limits and severity): Minor injuries alright (Bruises, bloody noses, cuts, etc) but let's hash it out before severe injuries (Broken bones, deep cuts, or burns)
Killing this character: On memes and games with respawn mechanisms, I'm definitely open to discussion.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Maybe! His mind has been described as "all shiny, like a mirror". Let me know first, and we can talk about it.
Xenophobia: Cain is kind of a massive xenophobe (to literal aliens). But he's not an idiot, and he's aware that rocking the boat might leave him overboard. He's capable of working together with them, even talking civilly, and is indeed much less xenophobic than the average Imperial citizen, if only for the fact that he isn't frothing at the mouth to slay aliens on sight. But he struggles with the idea of xenos as "people", is deeply distrustful of them, and fundamentally thinks they are significantly more disposable than humans. He wouldn't shed a tear if one died, basically.
He also is similarly prejudiced against witches, heretics, mutants, and artificial intelligences.
Theocratic, fascist government: The Imperium of Man is an autocratic government that worships the God-Emperor of Mankind. Cain serves in its military the Imperial Guard as a Commissar.
Capital punishment and discipline: Cain is a Commissar, which means that he's responsible for maintaining morale. He's very lenient and well-regarded in his regiment, as well as a decent person who largely cares about his troopers, but he's technically ordered floggings and penal legion sentences before. He doesn't like doing it, but he considers it his job. He's also executed people on the spot based on suspicion of them being infected by aliens (which turned out to be correct, but still).
Violence: His signature weapon is a chainsword, which is exactly what it says. He's pretty desensitized to violence. (Not that he's a swinging maniac - he's just very businesslike about decapitations if necessary.)
Grimdark future: Servitors made out of human bodies, vat-grown flying babies as a sign of piety and decoration, millions dying in pointless wars, laughter of thirsting gods, etc etc. Warhammer 40k is a pretty grimdark universe, and while Cain's canon is comparatively extremely lighthearted and comedic, he considers things the norm which often isn't for other characters.
Eugenics: discrimination against mutants is extremely a thing in Imperial society, but Cain is a lot more laid back about piety than others in his profession and is severely uncomfortable at most about minor mutations. Severe mutations get the same treatment as xenos, et al.
***LIES!!!: Cain has a public persona, and he is also extremely good at lying. His internal narration may well feature deception and lies. Please no metagaming. OOC knowledge ≠ IC hunches or feelings. Unless your character has an extreme ability of social awareness, perception, or paranoia (i.e. on the level of highly trained spies), they're unlikely to have a reason to think he's faking his entire personality if there's nothing in the text to indicate it. He's not a perfect liar, so individual lies can possibly be detected. If you're bothered by your character potentially being fooled, or have them insta-see through his persona and distrust him without any reason, I'm not sure if it'll work out. There will be slip ups, and there will be mistakes, he is going on a character journey. I would just like people to take them as they come!
Other potential warnings: Mentions of dubcon/noncon because of daemon seduction, slavery, state violence, indoctrination, conscription, brainwashing, demonic possession, horrible eldritch abominations, descriptions of dismemberment, violence, and body horror.

OK HERE IS THE WARNING SECTION:
This is about to make Cain sound like a total asshole (I promise he's not) but better safe with content warnings than sorry!

Leave a comment here to let me know if you want to opt out of anything from that list or otherwise! Whether from mentions of any subject, or from him entirely. I promise I won't take it personally, since 40k is just kind of Like That.
